Birds and Other Animals/ A Pablo Picasso Children’s Book

Years ago, when I was in college and still living back East, I went to a Picasso exhibit at the MoMA. It’s also where I saw my first Kandinsky in person. That experience gave me life. I could see the movement of the hand in the paint strokes IN PERSON and that rush floored me; it brought me to the exact moment of its creation and, I mean come on, that’s a pretty cool sensation. A similar thing happened when I saw Picasso’s work. Except this exhibit displayed no paintings at all; just simple small sketches done by a child Picasso. You can’t imagine the force behind these tiny line sketches. Mind blown. And anyway, I came across Birds and Other Animals the other day and its drawings brought me right back to the MoMA and, oh, such a happy memory. Food with friends cookbook

Food with Friends: The Art of Simple Gatherings is the. most. beautiful cookbook I’ve ever laid eyes on. No kidding. It’s gorgeous, you guys. Charmingly written, styled, and photographed, this one here is a keeper. Author Leela Cyd, a lovely woman I’ve had the pleasure of meeting within my local social circles, did this book all right. And I love this, the premise of Food with Friends… “The best gatherings are simple, yet somehow special. They might begin with an impromptu picnic after shopping at the farmer’s market or a late lunch with neighbors that stretches into cocktails under the stars.” Yes to this, in every way. Hooray for the simple + meaningful moments in life. Check out Leela’s blog + her stunning instagram, too! [ image via flutter magazine ]
