  • By some stroke of dumb luck, I managed to be born of a father who has never once wavered in his steadfastness and expressed love for his children. And I know this is rare. I know that there are folks out there who have conflicting relationships with their fathers, so before I go on please know I see you and I encourage you to rest yourself on this Father’s Day. For those who’d like to read on... Because I’ve found that keeping a pulse on thankfulness fills my heart, I’mma gonna share what I love about my Papa: I think his dad-jokes are very clever. He’s a wonderful teacher and mentor. The fostering of education and intellect in his sons and daughters has always been equal and unbiased. He’s such a gracious friend, a fun storyteller, and a generous spirit. Whenever I visit, he’ll still make me mini pancakes (he’ll have everything ready to go on the kitchen counter when I wake up and that swells my heart every single time). He’s taught me to earn my way with respect and compassion, never entitlement. He always does his best. There has not been any moment in my entire life when he’s been unkind to me and with all of life’s craziness, I think this has been its greatest gift. Happy Father’s Day to all the kind and supportive dads. You are rad and so important.

  • It’s easy to focus on what’s not going well in life, yeah? But I think it’s also important to focus on what’s going nicely. It’s a healthy practice, so I thought to share a bit (read: dissertation) with you. Ok ready? I’m thankful for good books (just finished Educated), the pretty light from waking with the dawn and the sunshine that bursts through just when you think the day will remain gloomy. I’m thankful for the way my career is expanding...creative projects, kind and gracious clients, prosperity, recognizing my strengths. For my community of friends and family, their rad diversity, their love and support. I’m thankful for this time I’ve spent single, that I’ve chosen it on repeat until love comes rushing in, or like a gale, or gently as if to whisper, “heeeeey girl, ya ready?” and I will say yes. I am thankful that amidst all the hoopla in this world, I am happiest reveling in the simple sparks, the new experiences, the strolls through life. I love that there are communities of people who speak up and contribute positively to humanity, and I’m thankful I choose each day to be a part of those movements. That I somehow landed my pale self among the California coast, its sunshine and beaches, nestled between the mountains and ocean...oh my goodness. It feels like a miracle. But looking back now, you guys, I am genuinely thankful for the gusts of difficulty, the darkness, the weight of the unknown because that first new breath coming out of those times opens up worlds. And I like the new one I’m entering. Most of all, I’m thankful for pizza delivery, which I will order after I post this. What are you thankful for?

  • Had to get my picture taken for work stuff and my hair was pro-styled on location (thank you, Emma!) which makes it so that my normally wild mane was polished and fancy, if only for a tiny amount of time. I own no hair styling tool beyond bobby pins and coconut oil so the likelihood of me trying to recreate this hair sitch is pretty slim. I’m appreciating it though. I also appreciate that my day to day hair routine takes like 3 minutes (and it shows). So win win, either way. I did have a fun time with great, kind, and supportive people and for that I’m happiest. p.s. Mai’a is the total lovebug dog with me in the pic 💗 p.p.s.
